When one of our brides came to us with the idea of carrying a wedding flower purse instead of a traditional bouquet, our In Bloom Event Designs team immediately fell in love with the challenge.



The inspiration photos were beautiful, but they didn't answer the biggest question: How do you actually build one?

For days, our team researched mechanics, tested ideas, and studied every detail. We wanted to create something that wasn't just beautiful for photos but could actually be carried throughout a wedding day.

Then came the next challenge: How do we keep the flowers hydrated? 

Fresh flowers need water to stay vibrant—especially when they're working overtime to create a wearable piece of floral art. And with a July heatwave in the forecast, these flower purses had a big job to do.

Unlike a traditional bouquet, which is designed to rest in a vase of water until just before the ceremony, a flower purse is not as fortunate. It must perform beautifully without that extra hydration while remaining lightweight, comfortable to carry, and structurally secure.

Bringing the Floral Purse to Life

After plenty of experimenting, our Lead Floral Designer, Michelle, found the solution that seamlessly balanced beauty with performance. By incorporating discreet floral cages, floral foam, and high-quality metal purse handles, she engineered a design that maintained hydration while capturing the silhouette of an elegant handbag.

Of course, the visible design was only part of the story. Working alongside In Bloom Event Designs' Floral Manager, Helena, they developed hidden mechanics and techniques that were carefully integrated to support the flowers throughout the day. It's the kind of behind-the-scenes innovation that transforms an ambitious design concept into a flawless wedding-day statement.

Creating a floral purse is a careful balance of artistry and engineering. Every design decision—from flower selection to construction techniques—is made with both beauty and performance in mind. This living handbag features roses, anthurium, calla lilies, sweet peas, hellebores, clematis, delphinium, thistle, lace flower, and trailing amaranthus. Every stem is thoughtfully positioned to catch the light and create natural movement from every angle.
